UUCW earned the “Green Sanctuary” designation from an organization affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association. Being a Green Sanctuary means we live out our commitment to the Earth by pursuing sustainability practices as a congregation, and both urging and training congregation members to do so. Sustainable practices are those that nurture life, build relationships, and reject material consumption and comfort as the major determinants of success or happiness.
The goals of Earth Ministry are to:
- Inspire congregation members to make personal lifestyle changes towards sustainability
- Build awareness within and beyond the congregation about environmental concerns and injustices
- Motivate Unitarian Universalists to community action on environmental issues
- Build a connection between spiritual practice and environmental consciousness
