7. Learn to Knit! – 2 spots available – $65 each
Have you ever wanted to learn to knit – or have you tried and failed? This is your chance! I will teach you to make a ribbed cowl that you’ll wear all winter. Included: Three lessons, two skeins of superwash bulky Merino wool (you pick the color), knitting needles, and assorted sundries needed to start knitting (see photo). All you need to bring is yourself! I promise you that you will succeed. The plan is to have the lessons on a morning or evening that works for all participants at a local coffee/tea shop. (Knitting goes with hot beverages like salt goes with pepper.) We may even have drop-in visits for encouragement from some of UUCW’s talented knitters. Sitting around a table and talking to other kindred souls as I knit is one of my favorite things. Maybe it will be yours. Knitting is meditative, relaxing, creative, and a great excuse to watch a Bruce Willis movie marathon while you finish your scarf. Lesson 1: Casting on, knitting, purling, and understanding the pattern. Lesson 2: Troubleshooting, understanding gauge and yarn substitution. Lesson 3: binding-off, sewing-off to create the cowl, more troubleshooting. I will go as slow or as fast as you wish. There are no rules in the “learning to knit” business.
