Susan Loy created the original watercolor to honor Norbert Fabian Capek’s Flower Celebration, which Capek introduced to Unitarians in 1923 in Prague. This annual ritual, now celebrated worldwide, is a celebration of beauty, diversity, and the coming together of individuals in community. It exemplifies the deep connection to nature that many Unitarians and Unitarian Universalists share. The artwork includes the first stanza from Capek’s hymn, “Kindle the flames of love,” hand-lettered in English and Czech.
