Join Rev. Suzelle Lynch and Dave Cicero, Lifespan Director of Religious Education in the UU Church West Parking Lot on Sunday, May 17 from 12:20 to 1:30 pm for a fabulous socially-distanced adaptation of our traditional Flower Communion ceremony. The Flower Communion (aka “Flower Festival”) was created by Czech Unitarian minister Rev. Norbert Čapek in the 1930s, as a symbol of respect for each person’s beautiful uniqueness and contributions as part of a larger, loving community. It also was a symbol of hope in the face of tyranny during World War II.
After the online service at 10 am, come over to the UUCW parking lot for your Flower Communion flower and a flower blessing. Follow the signs when you get there – and please stay in your car. Dave and Suzelle will have music playing, and they will be masked and gloved. Flowers will be distributed in a no-contact manner to keep everyone as safe as possible!
When you come for Flower Communion – please bring a flower for each member of your family. Garden flowers, wildflowers, or store-bought blossoms – all are welcome! The flowers you bring will be shared with others who come to receive flowers). If you are aware of someone who needs to have a Flower Communion bloom delivered to them at home, please e-mail Dave Cicero by May 15th.
Get Creative!
Enjoy this wonderful UUCW Flower Communion coloring page created by Dave Cicero, LDRE. If you color it and bring with you to UUCW on Sunday from 12:30 to 1:30 for the Drive-Through Flower Communion – we’ll give you a special prize! You can display it in your car window if you’d like. Adults, teens, and children are all eligible. Rev. Suzelle and Dave Cicero will be at church to facilitate the no-touch flower exchange and hand out prizes and flower blessings – we look forward to seeing you.
If you can’t come to church for the Drive-Through Flower Communion, simply take a photo of your coloring sheet (or of yourself with the coloring sheet ) and email to Kelly Bognar, Publications Coordinator and we’ll post your artwork on the UUCW Facebook page!
