“Justice in Israel and Palestine – A View from the Shrinking Jewish Center”

Loading Events

The challenge of standing for peace, coexistence, and consistent morality in Israel and Palestine has become nearly insurmountable following the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023. Rabbi Michal Woll joined the call for a ceasefire and a negotiated long-term end to the decades-old conflict early in the ensuing war. This morning she will share her personal story of learning, and then re-learning, about Israel and the occupation, share her experiences as a rabbi over the past seven years in Milwaukee, and describe the landscape in the local and national Jewish worlds as the war drags on.

About our Guest: Rabbi Michal Woll has been rabbi of Congregation Shir Hadash since 2017, following her 2007 ordination at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and her tenure at congregations in Vermont and Michigan. A third career rabbi, she was ordained following decades of work in corporate and clinical medicine. Since ordination, Michal has maintained her interest in medical ethics and end-of-life care. As a rabbi, she integrates her passions for music, movement, learning, self-discovery, pastoral care, and community building. She has recently returned to working in geriatric home care in addition to her rabbinic responsibilities.

Rabbi Michal is affiliated locally with the Interfaith Council of Greater Milwaukee and MICAH and is affiliated nationally with T’ruah: The Rabbinical Call for Human Rights.

Rabbi Michal lives on the Upper East Side with her husband, writer and publisher Jon M. Sweeney, their daughter Sima, cats Rosa and Martin, and Aussie mix Juno.
