Milwaukee Riverkeeper is holding its annual River Cleanup on Saturday, April 24th, starting at 9:00 am. UUCW members have volunteered to help remove litter from Milwaukee area rivers and creeks for many years. Picking up litter is a great way to help protect our waterways and the ecosystems they support. It’s a fun activity for individuals, groups, or families. The cleanup ends at noon.
Milwaukee Riverkeepers is staggering start times and number of people to ensure social distancing. This year it is required to register online for a site and time. We are recommending UUCW members work at the site at 51st Blvd. and Lincoln Creek on Milwaukee’s north side as was done in 2018 and 2019. There are only 10 people allowed to register at each half-hour time slot (9:00, 9:30, 10:00, and 10:30). Rob and Karen Zimmerman are registered for 9:30, but you can choose whichever time works best. If you do register, please let Rob or Karen know so they know who’s coming.
If you are unable to secure a time at this site, there are additional sites to choose from.
If you can’t make the Milwaukee Riverkeeper event, or if you can’t get enough of picking up litter, UUCW is also cleaning our selected portion of Underwood Creek along Pilgrim Road between Gephardt St. and North Ave. in Brookfield (south of Wirth Park) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1st. More details to be shared closer to the date.
