“Speak Mindfully, People are Listening”

Loading Events

Language plays a key role in how we understand the world, each other, and ourselves. When we bring mindful awareness to our language, we focus not on having the “right words” to navigate discomfort and avoid offense but on caring for people and avoiding harm. This service will wake us up to how much of our everyday language is unquestioned and unconscious of UU values, where this language comes from, and how we can transform it—and ourselves– through attentive, heart-centered practice.

Lynn Kapitan has been a member of UUCW since 1991 and is a former professor of art therapy. Her spiritual perspective is informed by a life-long commitment to social action and cross-cultural learning, and a deep love for how language can bridge differences.
