Split the Plate is one of UUCW’s programs of outreach and generosity. Each month we give half of all undesignated offering monies to a non-profit organization as a way to help us live our Unitarian Universalist values and serve our community.
From small beginnings in 1991, Housing Resources, Inc. has grown over 29 years to be the oldest and largest housing counseling agency in Southeast Wisconsin and the only full-service agency supporting both home buyers and existing home owners. HRI has five locations –three in Milwaukee County as well as an office in downtown Waukesha and another in downtown Racine. The following is a testimony given by the Caldera family of Racine at a recent HRI event:
My husband and I were introduced to Housing Resources by our Realtor and Lender. We signed up and took the Homework for Homebuyers Education Workshop. The classes were well worth the money. My husband and I learned so much. We didn’t even know about a home inspection until taking the class. The home inspector was very thorough. The classes were very informative and the instructors were very calm and answered everyone’s questions. We were a little nervous if some of our questions could come across as common sense, or “dumb” but from the beginning, we were reassured, it’s better to ask the question than to leave the class confused. We were also reminded that there is no such things as a “dumb” question.
The counselor we were paired with was Elena Echeverria. Elena is amazing. She goes above and beyond our expectations. From the beginning of the class, up until today, almost a month into owning our home, she has always been there for us. If we are ever confused about something or need help we know we can count on Elena to extend her help. When taking the Homework for Homebuyers Education Workshop and hearing Elena present the workshop, she reassured us buying was the right decision for us. We are so grateful she was our counselor and had such a great experience with her. She is someone we could count on from the beginning.
Because of Elena’s help and guidance throughout the way, my husband and I have now officially moved into our very first home. We are forever grateful to Housing Resources, our inspector, our realtor, our lender, and countless other people who have helped along the way and especially to Elena. It is such a surreal yet awesome feeling to own our very own place. I would definitely recommend Housing Resources and Elena!
