Many of you may have read Matthew Desmond’s book Evicted or have seen the presentation on “Evictions” on display in the Milwaukee area. The food collected this month will be taken to a trailer court like those in Desmond’s book. Trailer court residents who are behind on rent are often evicted with their items put at the curb. Many renters choose between paying rent or buying food.

Most-needed foods are:

Canned Meals/Protein: Chicken, Spam, Tuna, Pork & Beans, Peanut Butter, Ravioli, Spaghetti, Chili, and Chunky Soups.

Canned Fruit: Peaches, Pears, Mandarin Oranges, Pineapple

Carbohydrates: Noodles, Minute Rice, Crackers, Cereal, and Mac & Cheese.

Sweets: Cookies, Graham Crackers, Jello, and Pudding. Halloween candy would be a treat!

Additional items: Seasoned Salt, V8 Juice, Mayonnaise (plastic jar), and Manwich Sauce.

Other things you find on sale will be fine too. These items will be taken to Ron and Sue Schalig’s home for sorting and packaging halfway through October so please include a few of these choices early in your shopping trips. Hoping to fill the food bin at least twice since there are so many trailers in one court.

Thank you! Ellen Newbauer and Melanie Weston, Co-chairs.
