The March food donations will be received by the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative, which serves 300 to 400 homeless and 5,500 at-risk veterans in Milwaukee. The MHVI began in 2008 when two members began interviewing homeless veterans at Repairers of the Breach, a daytime shelter in Milwaukee, to find out what kinds of help they needed. It began slowly, giving bus tickets to homeless veterans to help them get to appointments, and walking them through the process of qualifying for health care and other benefits. Next came early morning outreach to find out where homeless vets sleep. These members of the MHVI earned a reputation for being people the veterans could trust and count on. The first food pantry was started in 2010.

There are “specific items” of non-perishable food they need. Nothing else this month, please. Please donate ONLY:
 Cereal
 Pasta sauce
 Pudding cups
 Knorr pasta sides
 Fruit cups
 Peanut butter
 Canned fruit
 Spam
 Box or rice packets
 Mac and cheese
 Canned stews and chili
