Split the Plate is one of UUCW’s programs of outreach and generosity. Each month we give half of all undesignated offering monies to a non-profit organization as a way to help us live our Unitarian Universalist values and serve our community.
While Housing Resources, Inc. served predominantly minority people with its programs, it is open to serving any and all people who need assistance. From offices in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Racine, they serve all of Southeast Wisconsin. During the COVID-19 pandemic, all education and counseling services are provided over the internet and by telephone. In a typical year, 65% of their clients are single women with children. Due to social distancing, they have not been doing in-person pictures with clients in 2020. Below are more successful clients from years past.
Your support through Split the Plate and any direct donations has a direct impact on about 1,600 adults through this program as well as over 3,000 children who benefit from a stable, affordable home. I want to take this opportunity to thank you Shirley and all responsible at Housing Resources, Inc. for the grant you gave me towards my new home. Your support and knowledge truly meant a lot. I want to give you my heartfelt thanks for your assistance in helping me to become a responsible and knowledgeable homeowner.”
Linda P., Racine, WI
Linda P. attended our Racine Homebuyer Education class in September 2015. She was very eager to start the home buying process and scheduled her first appointment right away. She is on a fixed income & had always paid cash for everything. Housing Resources worked with her to build a credit history and establish credit trades.
By October 2016, Linda established trade lines and a positive credit score/history. We were able to put together a pre-approval packet to send to the lender of her choice and she was approved right away. We were also able to facilitate down payment assistance. Linda is now living in her new home. She came to the office personally to thank Housing Resources for guiding her through the process.
