From WISDOM we learn that the commutation process is moving forward after a long pause. This is great news for transformational justice in our state. The Commutations Advisory Board met August 21, and a follow-up meeting is set for September 18 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The public can attend by tuning in virtually on the Governor’s Commutations YouTube channel and/or WisconsinEye to hear directly from people seeking commutation.
I believe this quote expresses the importance of this work:
“Commutation hearings give us an opportunity to look beyond a person’s worst moment and hear the full story of who they have become. When we listen to stories of accountability, remorse, growth, and transformation, we are reminded that people are more than the mistakes they made years—or even decades—ago.”

If we seek racial justice, we must look at our penal system closely. This is an opportunity.
