At UUCW, we do direct service, education and advocacy on issues relating to economic justice. Through our “Split the Plate” program, we support ten organizations per year by donating 50% of undesignated Sunday offering funds. We also gather donations of food and other needed items for food pantries around our Milwaukee metropolitan area.
UUCW adults and youth provide and serve food to homeless men four or five times a year at The Guest House shelter in Milwaukee. We conduct an annual giving campaign via the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee’s Guest at Your Table program, which supports human rights work across the U.S. and the globe.
And via our Nicaragua Brigades program, conducted via partner organization Bridges to Community, we have sent 200 adults and youth to Nicaragua to build houses. In this cross-cultural program as we live and work in a Nicaraguan community in Nicaragua, we build connections with the people, learn, grow, and come back to our local community ready to continue to build awareness of global issues, and work for justice.
