We’re (almost) back!

About a year ago I heard from a lot of families, “You’ll see us again, Dave, when we’re back meeting in-person.” While the pandemic isn’t as “under control” as we might have hoped, conditions are a bit more predictable and comfort levels around socializing are expanding. And as I write this, we at UUCW plan to open the doors to in-person worship and RE in about a month.

Still, we will continue to follow guidelines that promote a form of “preemptive radical inclusion”. (See CB Beal’s terrific sermon, from July 25, if you missed their explanation of it!) This means we’ll still observe occupancy limits, safer spacing recommendations, and wear our face masks indoors regardless of vaccination status. Why? Because we can’t know who all is among us — and would NOT be if we weren’t. And “they” could easily be “us”.

Such precautions are not fail-safe but do allow us to create a semblance of the community we crave. And for those still not able to congregate, remote access – of both worship and RE services – will remain an option.

Please read what’s in store for Children’s and Youth RE this year and register to be a part of it, whether your family is ready to return now or needs to wait a bit longer. Planning for the year is easiest with more information rather than less.

With deep appreciation,

Dave Cicero, DLRE
