Thanks to everyone who stopped at our table in the community room and signed our commitment to the Covenant for our Future. We see our involvement in this as an opportunity to have a larger voice with other faith communities in supporting our values and rejecting legislation that does not support families and the environment. We presented this information this week because this is the National Week of Action.
Our first “ask” is that you contact your legislators-both representative and senators and let them know you are a part of this national movement, Covenant for our Future and you want them to repeal the H.R, 1 Act (sometimes recognized as the Big Beautiful Bill). If you did not see Karen Zimmerman’s post on realm, I will repeat here a script you can use when calling or writing your legislators.
To contact your legislators, call 202-224-3121 (switchboard) and ask to be connected to our U.S. Representative or Senator. If you have a personal story related to the issue of someone/community that is being affected please consider sharing it. These are often very impactful.
Sample Script:
Hi Rep/Sen, my name is _________and I live in ____________ Wisconsin. As a person of faith I am calling to encourage you to repeal the H.R.1 Bill. The impact of this bill has had dire consequences for many in Wisconsin. We sadly are expecting more problems to occur after the first of the year. (tell a personal story here if appropriate) You have the power to eradicate these harms. Repeal H.R.1 now.
