Split the Plate is one of UUCW’s programs of outreach and generosity. Each month we give half of all undesignated offering monies to a non-profit organization as a way to help us live our Unitarian Universalist values and serve our community. For May, our Split the Plate partner is Pathfinders.
Pathfinders provides many important services for Milwaukee youth who are homeless or housing insecure. For example, the agency provides the only street outreach program in the city. It operates both a drop-in-center and a shelter providing emergency short-term housing for adolescents 11-17. Intensive crisis counseling is offered to the youth in the shelter including their families because many are runaways. A Supported Housing program assists young people to obtain safe, stable housing. In addition, Pathfinders assists adolescents at high risk of sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking. It operates the Southeastern Education Center, contracting with Milwaukee Public Schools to work with students who have been unable to succeed in regular classrooms. In all these programs, Pathfinders offers counseling services to help with the myriad problems arising in today’s complex times; counseling is extended to youth aged 18-21.
