UU Church West’s “Split the Plate” program is one of outreach and generosity. Each month we give half of all undesignated offerings to a non-profit organization, to help us live out our Unitarian Universalist values and serve our community.

Voces De La Frontera began as a newspaper and was co-founded by Christine Neumann-Ortiz in Austin, Texas in 1994 and was associated with the Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras and workers/immigrants rights under NAFTA.  In 1998 VOCES relocated to Milwaukee and changed its emphasis to one of educating low-wage and immigrant workers about their employment rights,  promoting community organizing, leadership development and access to higher education.

VOCES strives to create a world where all people live free of poverty and discrimination, have access to safe, dignified work, quality education, and health care; where immigrants can cross borders with dignity; and human rights and worker’s rights are respected; where the government is true “of the people, and all families thrive.

In 2004, Voces members founded a 501c4 arm, Voces de la Frontera Action, in order to mobilize voters to elect pro-immigrant candidates. Voces de la Frontera Action registered 10,000 voters in the 2004 elections.
