A greeting from Sarah Harris, our Community Connections coordinator for October.
I have been a member of UUCW since 2016. I was born in upstate New York and spent ten years of my childhood in Sioux City, Iowa. After high school, I studied in Minnesota, Scotland, and Chicago. I have actually lived in Milwaukee longer than anywhere else. This is my 16th year as the school social worker for Milwaukee Public Schools at Luther Burbank School. Prior to this, I was a school social worker for the School District of Waukesha for 9 years.
I am married with two daughters who are both in college. Over the years, I have also been an active participant/volunteer in my neighborhood (Enderis Park of Milwaukee) and at my daughters’ schools as they were growing up (Milwaukee German Immersion School and Milwaukee School of Languages). I enjoy hiking, reading, gardening, and traveling.”
Community Connections is a support network within UUCW that seeks to provide compassionate and empathetic assistance to members on an as-needed basis. Here are just a couple of the many ways we can connect volunteers to members who have a specific need:
- We organize the preparation and delivery of meals and completion of errands for members following surgery or during an illness.
- We set up rides for members of our community to attend worship services and go to medical appointments.
You can contact Sarah if you need assistance or know someone who needs support in one of these or other ways.
We would love for you to join our Community Connections team. If you are able to help by preparing a meal, dropping off carry out, running an errand, providing a ride, or something else along these lines for one of our members, feel free to reach out to Sarah.
The strength of our community is reflected in the ways we support each other and our aim is to continue to grow this important ministry!
