UU Beloved Conversations on Race Program Returns Virtually – Learn about it and how you can get involved.

In spring, 2020 UUCW began the UU designed Beloved Conversations program as an in-person program for learning about our own racial identity and how race, racism, and white supremacy impact the systems of our congregations and communities and how to work together to shift them.  Covid-19 stopped the in-person program.  Now Beloved Conversations is back in a completely updated on-line format that offers more flexibility time-wise than the in-person program did. At this important moment in our national conversation and with UUCW continuing its anti-racism work, this new online program offers a real opportunity to learn about your own personal journey in racial understanding and how you can contribute to change. We hope you will consider being involved – and if not this fall, in the upcoming Spring semester.

The online program begins in October and will include self-study lessons, small group discussions, and monthly larger group discussions. This first semester of the program WITHIN focuses on the internal work that each of us needs to do as we engage racial justice. This work is different for White folks and for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) and will be done entirely in race-based caucuses. Costs: The cost for the fall program is $150. But because our in-person program was stopped mid-way, UUCW has been given 15 free vouchers. They are being offered first to the participants who started last spring but there may be some remaining after they indicate their interest.

Interested? Please let Ann Heidkamp know, no later than Thurs. Sept. 17th. The small groups can be organized by the congregation so before anyone registers, we need to know who is interested in that option, either in a White or BIPOC small group,  being in a cross congregation BIPOC small group,  or in a cross congregation White small group.

Registration:  Once we know the information about who wants to participate, the small group preferences, and the availability of the vouchers I can provide you with the information needed to register by the 9/20 deadline.
