A message from Scott Shulick, UUCW Board of Trustees
In fall of 2019, the UUCW congregation voted to solicit a buyer for the East Property. On September 27, 2020, a special meeting of the congregation was called to discuss and vote on a Letter of Intent to Purchase (LOI) that was submitted by Kris Kiefer of Castle Senior Living (www.castlewi.com). The Buyer’s intention is to develop the property into an assisted living facility. At that meeting, the congregation voted to accept the proposed offer.
With an accepted LOI, the next step is to translate the letter’s terms into an actual Purchase and Sale Agreement, with the appropriate legal language and protections for both parties. This contract is being negotiated now and is expected to be finalized this spring. Once final, the buyer has 10 months to work out the feasibility of their project. This includes feasibility from a design, engineering, and construction perspective, as well as ensuring their plans are acceptable to the city of Brookfield. During that 10-month period, the terms regarding future shared elements and management responsibilities between UUCW and the buyer would be determined. It is highly likely that this process will take most, if not all, of 2021 to complete.
In past years UUCW has rented space on the property to Alsum Sweetcorn (www.alsumsweetcorn.com) to run a produce stand from late spring to early fall. While the pending sale of the property creates some complexities, UUCW is having active conversations with the Alsum family regarding plans for 2021.
