UU Church West’s “Split the Plate” program is one of outreach and generosity. Each month, we give half of all undesignated offerings to a non-profit organization to help us live our Unitarian Universalist values, pursue the goal of social justice, and serve our community.

Our January Split the Plate partner is Stewards of Prophetic Hopeful Intentional Action or SOPHIA. SOPHIA is the Waukesha County affiliate of WISDOM, a statewide network comprised mainly of faith-based organizations that pursue issues of social justice.

SOPHIA embraces and champions policies that provide for individual dignity and dismantle structural racism. SOPHIA calls for clear lines of accountability with people of color and racially oppressed communities that our work may directly impact. By embracing diversity as a gift SOPHIA exemplifies the UU principle that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and inclusivity.

With their Community Calendar which is posted on their website, SOPHIA invites the whole community to participate in everything from blood drives and Native American ceremonies to supporting the NAACP (National Association for Advancement of Colored People) issues of rental and home ownership in Waukesha County.

As this group of UU congregations works together, we amplify our friendship and our purpose. SOPHIA is a rich and rewarding partner for Split the Plate.
