UU Church West’s “Split the Plate” program is one of outreach and generosity. Each month we give half of all undesignated offerings to a local non-profit, to help us live our Unitarian Universalist values, pursue the goal of Social Justice, and serve our community.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, which means it’s a perfect month to help support our May Split the Plate partner, STRYV365.

Many children in our area experience trauma.  Trauma is verbal, emotional, sexual and/or physical stress and can take place anywhere — at home, at school, in the neighborhood, and in any relationship. No child should face trauma alone.

This is where STRYV365 comes in. Their mission is to equip youth with a resilient mindset through trauma-informed programming in education, athletics, and other activities.

To do this they offer programs to build resiliency skills through teaching responsible decision-making, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship skills. These are universally critical life skills for children and adults alike.

For example, one of their programs, called STRYVtime, offers support to youth in mentoring sessions that are held in small groups and individual meetings. STRYV365’s non-clinical approach empowers their coaches to discuss current events, and goal setting, develop leadership skills, and improve critical thinking and decision-making strategies with students. All of this is made possible through the power of healthy, meaningful relationships!
