A request from Milwaukee Quakers
Friends of Peace and Justice Communications Action: Please add your voice to ours!

We urgently request a legislative audit of the communications contracts between the Wisconsin Department of corrections and TextBehind and ICSolutions.

IN BRIEF – Wisconsin Department of Corrections practices are endangering public safety by allowing communications between incarcerated persons and those who love them to be prohibitively expensive and restricted. Maintaining strong family ties between incarcerated individuals and their loved ones has been shown to reduce recidivism and crime, so impediments to communication endangers public safety while it creates a financial burden on those who can least afford it. This would seem to be a bipartisan issue both in terms of taxpayer dollars and concern for public safety.

We are concerned that the private companies contracted to oversee these communications are not meeting the needs of the prisoners and their families and are thereby not providing value to Wisconsin taxpayers. We ask that the contracts the DOC has entered into with TextBehind and ICSolutions be examined to determine whether, by how much, and by whom the taxpayers of Wisconsin are being taken advantage of.

Please express your concerns to Governor Tony Evers at 608-266-1212 or via this submission form.
