The Earth Ministry Team is excited to be partnering with the Milwaukee County Zoo on a recycling challenge called Gorillas on the Line… Answer the Call. We will be working hard to collect as many handheld electronic devices as possible to be recycled now through April 30, 2020.

Please assist in this challenge by asking your family and friends to collect old cell phones. Bring your devices to church on Friday, March 20 from 10 am – 4 pm. The collection bin will be placed outside the East Entrance.

Besides cellular phones, other small handheld electronics will be accepted. This includes things like iPods or digital music players, small GPS devices, WiFi hotspots, tablets, handheld gaming devices, or e-readers like Kindles and Nooks.

Why recycle your old or unused handheld devices through Gorillas on the Line? To help save gorilla (and other animals) in the wild. Cell phones and other handheld electronic devices contain coltan. This mineral is often destructively mined in African countries that are home to many endangered animals, including gorillas, bonobos, and chimpanzees. Recycling your old cell phones and other handheld devices allows for these minerals to be used, decreasing the need for mining and ultimately save wildlife. Keeping these devices out of landfills also helps to protect our water supply, here in Wisconsin.

Funds raised by recycling these devices will support gorilla conservation programs. Please participate by bringing in your old devices to be recycled. Thank you.
